Iron Metal Recycling: The GMR Method

Metals are incredibly valuable materials that can be recycled over and over again without degrading their properties. This means that scrap metal has a lot of value, which motivates people to collect it for sale to recycling businesses.

But there’s more to it than just the financial incentive. There’s also an environmental imperative. The recycling of metals helps us preserve natural resources while requiring less energy to process than the manufacture of new products using virgin raw materials.

Recycling emits less carbon dioxide and other harmful gasses into the atmosphere. And perhaps, most importantly, recycling saves money and allows businesses to reduce their production costs. Not to mention, recycling also creates jobs

In this article, we’ll focus on iron metal recycling — the Generated Materials Recovery way.

Understanding Metal Recycling Grades

There are two different grades of metal recycling: ferrous metal recycling and non-ferrous metal recycling.

The difference between the two is that ferrous metals contain iron and non-ferrous metals do not. Ferrous metals are more durable than non-ferrous metals and can be found in products that corrode more easily and rely on magnetic energy. Non-ferrous metals, on the other hand, are resistant to both corrosion and magnetism, which makes them a great choice for many industries due to their flexibility.

Examples of ferrous metals are steel (carbon and alloy), bushing, and mixed sheet iron. Non-ferrous metals include copper, lead, zinc, tin, and aluminum.

Knowing the difference is important prior to recycling because most recycling facilities will pay more for non-ferrous metals. At GMR, we recycle both!

How We Collect and Transport Metal

We use open tops of different sizes and capacities to collect and transport the metal we recycle, ranging from 15-yard to 50-yard containers. Once the containers are full, we’ll pick them up and transport the metal to our facility for processing.

Once we’ve collected your waste, there are a few ways in which we can bring the materials to our recycling facility. Our roll-off truck or tractor-trailer services are perfect for compactors and open tops, while our tractor-trailer services can accommodate all types of bales of plastic.

If you prefer, we also offer staged road-worthy storage trailers for collection. Whichever option you choose, rest assured that your waste will be recycled in a responsible manner.

As experienced recycling experts, we know how to grade materials, what service requirements they have, and how to convert them into valuable commodities. This allows us to maximize their value and help you reach your recycling goals.

We are proud to operate our own recycling facilities, ensuring that all materials are sorted, cleaned, and prepared for shipment in the most environmentally-friendly way possible. Our facilities always adhere to the highest standards of safety and environmental regulatory compliance set by the EPA. Plus, having our own fleet of trucks and tractor-trailers, as well as tailored logistics capabilities, ensure that your recycling experience is unique and convenient.
